How Can Climate-Change Be A Significant Aspect In Selecting Your Landscape Style

September 2nd, 2010

Melbourne has a tremendous temperature climate changes. You’ll be able to experience climate change even in 1 day. They used to call it as “four seasons in one day” in Melbourne Australia. It’s the identical latitude as Seoul, Auckland, Athens and Algiers.

This unpredictable weather change in Melbourne must be the most important issue in your plant choice on Landscape Design Melbourne. It is totally different from Sydney or Brisbane, their winter average is fourteen degrees centigrade, summer temperature is around twenty four degrees centigrade and rainfall only at 650mm. To understand exactly what plants are perfect for your garden, you can consult with Landscape Designers Melbourne. They can orient you what plants would work and would not work for Melbourne garden.

The moderate climate changes in Melbourne provide a large-variety of plants. So this can be good in your plants selection for your landscape garden. Landscape Design Melbourne has garden designs that represent plant communities from wet sections to dry Californian desert. In fact when it involves landscape and geography, Victoria and California have a lot in common when it comes to mountains, temperate coast and heath and inland deserts.

There are wide choices of colorful plants in Northern Hemisphere grow in Melbourne gardens like oaks, conifers and elms which will be hard to prosper in different side of Australia. Since Melbourne is considered as micro-climate area, it is possible to grow large leafed tropical plants and vines like heliconias, cycads, gingers, strelitzias and various palms like Livistona and Kentia. But take note that most of the above-mentioned plants have a large appetite for water so it is considered as impractical by some Australian cities that have constant water limitations. Because of the increasing drawback in water, Melbourne architects and landscapers are looking new styles, techniques and picks of plants that need less water supplies.

Melbourne Landscape Design has found nice ideas on how to play a role in water conservation. They include recycling gray water from washing machine and simply add many organic compost, mulch and manure to their design. They also challenged their landscaping design by fusing a hill in it.

However, landscaping a hill would be a tough job. You must do it with style and interesting at the same time. You need to consider some few things before setting up your landscape hill. You must check what type of soil you’re working on. This is essential because you must consider erosion and landslide. Height is also important to take note.

Your imagination will also be put to test. Aside from the hill design, you need to look for ways on how to jazz-it-up. Like building a rock path which will serve both beauty and functionality. You can combine gentle slopes with planting colorful local flora or you can create terrace gardens.

To better understand everything about your landscape garden, it’s always good to talk with your Landscape Designers Melbourne. They will explain you everything you must know. Also, share your ideas for them to make a perfect plan.

Flower Gardening

March 27th, 2010

Flower gardening has first started when farmers did not eliminate weeds from their crops because they liked their colors. The entire history of agriculture is marked by this tolerance because this is how flower gardening appeared in the first place. Flowers are known as companion plants as compared to food plants that have a practical side exclusively. It was in the 19th century that flower gardening became popular in the United States and created favorable grounds for landscaping.

flowers gardening

At present, there are corporations that actually pay gardening service providers to take care of their gardens every season so that colors are preserved. Flower gardening is demanding as it relies on good knowledge of soil peculiarities, plant species, fertilization and so much more. This is also the reason why some people take flower gardening as a hobby while others have turned it into a profession

Large residences have many flowers and although many are grown indoors, the main display is outdoors. Fertile soil, lots of sunlight and good weather will make your garden grow and bloom most beautifully. Flower gardens sometimes complement herb gardens and ornamental vegetables. Many people enjoy such combinations.

Flowers have the great merit of appealing to us in lots of ways from mood improvement to optimistic attitudes towards life. All senses are delighted by colors, fragrances and the harmonious existence of the small ecosystem that you create with a flower garden. For many people who take flower gardening as a hobby, one or two beds are enough to achieve nice aesthetic effects.

If you love nature and have a special attraction for flowers, then, flower gardening could be a more than lovely occupation. And although results take months and years sometimes, the actual cultivation process is rewarding in itself.

Soil, water and sun, some basic tools and the right seeds, they make the elements to start with. Knowledge comes with experience and if you make mistakes at the beginning, flower gardening will get better with every season. This occupation is about feeling great in nature, and it’s not for those with a sedentary lifestyle. A Guide to Growing Roses From Cuttings

February 28th, 2010

If you’re hoping to learn how to grow roses without too much investment or commitment right at the beginning, then you might have a friend who can help you use a different method. If you start your flower gardening more slowly, beginning with just a few cuttings, you may get a more gradual, less time and money intensive picture of your abilities before you go wholeheartedly into the endeavor. It’s worth a try to discover whether or not you can succeed.

It’s best not even to try this with hybrid tea roses or those you get from florists. Floribunda roses grow well from cuttings, as do miniatures, but others don’t have as much success. People with a lot of experience, such as experts in how to grow roses, might manage growing even hybrid teas using cuttings, but someone who’s just starting out and doesn’t know all the ins and outs of rose growing is unlikely to have the same success. Better at least to begin with a type of rose that everyone agrees can be started with a cutting.

You ought to do rose pruning in the first part of spring, taking a few six-inch stems (or three inch stems for miniatures). Cut them on a slight diagonal, in the morning before the stresses of the day.

At one time, folks knew how to grow roses with cuttings safeguarded by Mason jars, and the procedure still does the trick. So as soon as you have your cuttings, take off the lower foliage, with only several at the top, and dunk the stems into a rooting powder. Then position them either into your garden soil or into containers of potting soil. At this point, place a Mason jar over each stem and water occasionally during the next few weeks.

In milder climates, you may be able to grow rose bushes from these cuttings just by putting them in your garden soil during the summer and forgetting about the Mason jar. On the other hand, in cooler regions, you might start them in containers indoors with a heating pad beneath them to help stimulate the roots. There are some general tips for how to grow roses from cuttings, but these need to be adapted to your particular situation. If you can induce your cuttings to root and start growing, then it might be a good, gradual way to start your rose growing hobby.

Rose gardening can definitely be challenging to those that are not blessed with a green thumb. But growing roses isn’t impossible if you have the right tools and choose the right type of roses for their environment.

How to care for an orchid?

    July 26th, 2009

How to determine your Orchid specie

Orchids intrigue many people, and it is pretty hard to chose one since there are over 20 000 species of them.
Some of the most impressive orchids which are easy to cultivate are : the phalaenopsis, the cattleyas and Cymbidium. These orchids have large flowers that blossom from one to three months.
The phalaenopsis has a further benefit. It can be grownin an apartment. Important temperature variations during the day are needed for the other species named earlier, so you can not cultivate them in an apartment.

How to deal with them daily

A healthy orchid has beautiful shiny leaves. You need to find a bright place for your orchids while avoiding direct sunlight.(do not put behind a window, for example) : your orchid’s leaves might burn and the flowers may begin to wilt. Above all, do not water them too much : once every ten days is sufficient. Use a non-calcareous water like clear rain water or spring water. Finally, do not water the leaves at the heart, otherwise they risk rotting.

    How to treat an orchid?

Once your flower has wilted, continue watering as before. It is better not to cut the stems, unless they are dead because they blossom periodically.
Generally, a re-potting every two years is enough. You don’t necessarily need to have a deep pot, use an “orchid special” compost, made of polystyrene and pine bark, that you can find in garden centers. Do not use too much fertilizer,or your plant will suffocate. If you absolutely want to use some, you can use any universal fertilizer once every two weeks before and during flowering, but not after!

Finally, beware of pests that can colonize the plant: aphids, mites, mealybugs …. to get rid of them use insecticides for orchids that you can find in any garden center. Just remember a well cared phalaenopsis can live up to 20 years.

The Pleasure and Delight of Garden Accessories

    July 26th, 2009

I remember visiting a friend’s garden a few years ago and commenting how his garden decor and garden ornaments unmistakably added something special to the entire garden experience.  The water fountains, bird feeders, sculptures, birdhouse, and vases were particularly remarkable and seemed to ensnare me into the garden and make me feel more at ease.

I have learned through the years that the special decorations ardent garden lovers add to their gardens increase the distinctiveness of their garden and can display the gardener’s personality.  Besides, garden decorations also add happiness and joy to the whole garden experience.

Think About Adding Some Neat Garden Accents To Your Garden

Here’s the bottom line: if you want to add something special to your garden, consider adding some ”unusual” garden accents to the plants, flowers, and ground cover that you already have in your garden.

Then again, maybe you have not made a deliberate effort to focus on the garden ornaments in other gardens.  So the next time you go to a renowned garden in your neighborhood or in another part of the U.S, take a little time to observe all the dissimilar garden accents and accessories and how they make the garden an even more attractive place to visit.

For example, observe if the gardener has added statues, planters, water fountains, or sculptures to his or her garden.  Then look for other ornaments such as lanterns, metal garden art, or wind chimes.  Once you start to notice the decorative objects that are highlighted in most gardens, what is more, you will begin to grasp more fully the spectacle and the appeal that garden decorations can add to any garden.

Why People Add Weird But Wonderful Decorative Items to Their Garden

From a different framework, why do gardeners add peculiar but magnificent decorative items like old pots and pans, bathtubs, old wheelbarrows, or old sinks to their gardens?  In the same way, why do so many people have various accessories such as vases, wind chimes, sundials, scarecrows, or sculptures in their gardens?

Have you ever noticed a lot of different birds in the gardens you have visited?  If so, don’t be too astonished to learn that the gardener has invited our fair-feathered friends by including bird feeders, birdhouses, or birdbaths in his or her garden.

There is a sound reason why gardens can add tranquility and serenity and a way to get away from the rat race of our nerve-racking lives.  The flowers, plants, ground cover, and the garden ornaments all combine to create a special place that is insulated and isolated from the tension and turmoil of our daily lives.

    Summation

In sum, millions of people have their own gardens and a good proportion of these people add imaginative garden ornaments to their gardens in order to make their garden hideaway even more appealing.  With the possible exception of container gardening and indoor gardening, the garden ornaments in a person’s garden can actually energize the overall garden experience and help take away the anxiety and stress in our frantic lives.
