As a keen flower arranger, my priority when creating my garden was to grow flowers, but there is quite a lot to know about flower garden design, and in particular, how to mange the seasons so that there is always something growing which I can use in my flower arranging projects.
I like to create candle centerpieces for one special family meal each week, and that means I need flowers which can be used either grouped around my candles, or submerged in a tall vase topped by a floating candle.
As a result I have created a number of raised beds where I grow hydrangeas – the large heads make flower arranging really easy – I grow orchids indoors (much easier than I ever though it would be) and I have a number of pots and containers where I grow herbs and cottage garden flowers, like lavender, which not only help to repel insects, they also make a lovely fragrant addition to the vases in my home. By designing the garden for the flowers, I’ve extended the beauty of my home.

It is nice to be busy with gardens, which could really make the house more homely and beautiful. I remember that I have orchids before but it is hard to keep them after renovating the house. I didn’t know that lavender could repel insects. Maybe I should keep that in mind. Do you know how to grow roses?
