Easy and Affordable Decorating Ideas

Decorating your home used to be really simple-all you had to do was hire a professional decorator. Some people are still able to hire decorators. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who see decorating their homes as a luxurious option and not something that they will ever be able to do. Give it some thought: how many of your friends live in houses or apartments that aren’t decorated because they think that decorating is too expensive? Thankfully there are plenty of budget friendly ways that you can put a personal touch on your home. If you would like to learn some of the ways you can decorate your home in your spare time without spending all of your hard earned cash, read on!

The thrift store is your friend. Shopping at thrift stores and other types of used stores or second hand stores can really help you not spend tons of money when you decorate your home. There are lots of decorative items on thrift store shelves, you just need to learn how to be creative with what you find on the shelves. Turning thrift store finds into home decorations is easy; you simply need some time and imagination. Even the strange and funny clothes you often find on the racks can be repurposed. The best donated items can be found in bigger cities or wealthy neighborhoods.

Dumpsters can be gold mines at the right times of the month and year. Do you live somewhere that sees a lot of people moving to and from it? Visit these types of neighborhoods regularly. Moving van space is limited and many people will simply start throwing things away when they realize that the moving van has filled up. It might seem unrealistic but it is possible to create a decorating scheme and to furnish your home using only “found” things. Don’t take anything you find on a curbside without making sure that you are allowed to do so. A quick knock on the door will usually get you the answers you need. One could also look for some pretty wallpaper designs.

Don’t follow the status quo! There are plenty of things you already own that you can use to decorate your house. Believe it or not, pots and pans can be great pieces of art-especially since you can still use them to cook! Instead of digging through a cupboard, the pot or pan you need is right there on its peg.

If it was good enough for Julia Child it’s good enough for you! Have you ever been given a really great quilt or pretty patterned blanket? Why not hang it up on the wall so everyone can see it? There are no written rules that say quilts and blankets can only be used for warmth and bedspreads. Decorating with regularly used things can be a great way to save money. Many people get distracted by the cost of decorating when decorating can easily be done without spending a lot of money. Get inspiration from the decorating schemes of your friends. It is a good idea to look at the decorations you like and think “I can do that for less money.” Decorating can easily be done inexpensively. Many people find that they don’t spend a single dollar when they decorate!
