Gardening is a great way to unwind after a long day at your cosmetic surgery work place, however, if someone dampened your enthusiasm for a garden because they told you it wasn’t possible since you are an apartment dweller? That’s just not true! The truth is plain and simple. It is extremely possible to have a lovely apartment garden, no matter how limited your space. You will, nonetheless, be more limited in your choices and what you can do with an indoors garden, as compared with a standard outdoors garden. However, with a little research, imagination, and work, you will find that it is not only possible, it’s a lot of fun. Here are some tips to help all apartment dwellers realize their dream of having a lush garden, even with limited space.
Be objective about the amount of space you have available and what you need to be able to do within that space. It might be tempting to dedicate the space you’d normally use for a dining room table into a tiered container garden. Is your dining room table really expendable? think through your decision to forfeit the use of your dining room table, so you don’t regret making this choice if all of your relatives come for dinner at the same time. When you identify a space within your home that would work for a garden, make sure you don’t plan an overabundance of plants for the space. Be realistic! The containers you use for your indoor gardening do not have to be fancy or expensive. You are already likely paying quite a lot of money in rent and utilities and really one container is pretty much as good as the next. Look for containers that are on sale. Do you do garage sales? You can almost always find containers – and other gardening supplies – at garage sales for hardly any cost. Shopping for inexpensive containers will give you more cash flow to buy better quality plants, seeds, soil, and other items you need for your container gardening.
If you can dedicate a large enough area for your garden, you might want to install a mini-greenhouse. These are compact and can easily be tucked into a corner. Also, you can usually find them already assembled and ready to use. If the cost of a mini greenhouse is too much, it’s not that hard to build one with odds and ends you can find at such places as the Salvation Army or Goodwill. You will be able to grow a bigger variety of plants in your apartment if you use a mini greenhouse.
If you have a balcony you could even build one to fit into your balcony! Don’t limit your creativity and gardening enjoyment simply because you don’t have a yard or your living area is small. There are many ways you can express yourself through your gardening. You won’t be able to convince everyone of this, of course, however true it might be. Don’t fall prey to the limited thinking of those who believe that if you don’t have a yard, or garden space outside, you can’t enjoy a garden. All you need to do is find some spaces for your containers and put your plants wherever you want them. Use these tips to help you get started on your project. There’s a lot more advice out there, and you can tap into it by doing a little searching online or at your local library. If you read our tips, listen to what the experts in your nursery tell you, and do some independent research, you’ll be off to a flying start having your very own container garden.
If you have some of these plants in your home office, you can be sure to enjoy the long hours on that humanscale freedom chair without complaining.
